Pirgos and Patras. Also Peloponnese is connected with western
Greece through the new Rio-Antirio Bridge (10 Km from Patras).
There are major ongoing road constructions for the improvement
of the whole road network of Peloponnese.
Proastiakos, the suburban railway, runs between Kiato (20Km
west of Corinth) and Athens International Airport, providing
access to Athens city centre and the Piraeus port through Athens
metro. Kiato is connected by train with Patras.
There are also regular flights from Athens to Kalamata and to the
island of Kythira, as well as charter flights to Araxos airport
(between Patras and Olympia).
Several towns on the eastern coast of Peloponnese are
connected by boat and hydrofoil to Piraeus, while from the ports
of Killini and Patras, on the western coast, the Ionian Islands are
accessible, and Neapolis (SE edge) is the main port for Kythira
island. Patras is also the major port that connects Greece with
Italy (Venice, Ancona, Bari, Brindisi).
There are also four well-equipped marinas that can
accommodate 300 yachts in Kalamata, 70 yachts in Methana,
450 yachts in Patras and 220 yachts in Xylocastro.

The Patras Carnival (Patrino karnavali) is the largest event of its
kind in Greece and one of the biggest in Europe, with a heritage
of 160 years.
The events start in January/February and last until Lent Monday.
The carnival is not a single event but a variety of events and its
apogee comes in the last weekend of the Carnival with the
Saturday evening parade of carnival groups, the extravagant
Sunday parade of floats and groups, and finally the ritual burning
of king carnival in the mole of Saint Nikolas street in the harbour
of Patras.
The Palaeologiko Festival at Mystras, starting on May 29th,
combined with a requiem mass in memory of Constantine
Palaeologos, the last Byzantine emperor.
The Epidavros Festival is one of the oldest and probably the most
imposing institutions in Greece promoting ancient Greek theatre.
The plays are presented at the ancient theatre of Epidavros.
The International Festival of Patras takes place every summer,
with a program consisting mostly of plays - both ancient drama
and modern theatre - as well as various musical events.
The International Dance Festival takes place in Kalamata in July.
The olive oil festival of Selasia (10 km north from Sparta) takes
place the first weekend of August.

Fine olive oil and olives, raisins, cheeses, oranges and excellent
honey and wines are some of the products someone can try
locally.
A great variety of sporting-recreational activities are available,
such as sea water sports, rafting, trekking, snow ski (snow ski in
the morning swim in the afternoon).
